Abstract

The article presents a sociological approach to the development of the Russian cities. A critical understanding of urban planning and a different approach to the urban development is described based on the concept of the city for people. The city for people is positioned as an individual-oriented, inclusive, discursive and communicative city with comfortable space for all categories of citizens. This city provides communicative space for people, emphasizes general, public importance of urban space as a counterbalance to a more closed private life.
