Abstract
It is important to study consumer ability of chrysotile and chrysotile-containing materials, taking into account the environmental aspect of fiber processing and applications.
Purpose: Identification of different fiber processing methods, such as mechanical, chemical, thermal, combined. Investigation of the fiber processing effect on their surface and physical and mechanical properties.
Methodology: A comprehensive analysis of the literature of the period 1967–2025 devoted to the modification of chrysotile asbestos fiber, description of chrysotile processing methods, structural properties and methods of modification of chrysotile fibers, and their subsequent use as a structuring component of materials for various purposes.
Research findings: Methods of modification of chrysotile locks are classified according to processing parameters. The heat treatment, mechanical and chemical effects, combined methods of modifying chrysotile fibrils are highlighted. Technological parameters of described methods are indicated, as well as structural changes in chrysotile fiber and possible fields of its application as a structuring component not only in the manufacture of chrysotile cement products, but also in the production of sorbents, catalysts, polymer materials, and metallurgical industry.
