Abstract
The energy efficiency improvement of buildings is closely linked to the heat loss reduction via thermally conductive elements. Even in the absence of joints in cast-in-place concrete buildings, the formation of thermal bridges is observed in windows, doors, wall corners, balcony projections, and junctions between parapets and roof. This work compares various design of parapet units in terms of their energy-saving potential.
Purpose: The investigation of thermal properties of different cast-in-place parapet units in steady temperature conditions and determination of calculation feasibility in a variable heat flux.
Research findings: Different computational models of parapet units are developed in SolidWorks allowing the temperature of the inner wall surfaces to be determined for various joint designs.
Practical implications: The obtained results allow formulating recommendations on the best heat insulation of parapet units in cast-in-place concrete buildings, identifying effective methods for the heat loss reduction.
